Becoming a morning person is probably the best thing I have done for myself. I made the change a few years ago and started waking up at 5 AM as a challenge. And I am so glad I made that change and made it into a habit.
Waking up early in the mornings is one habit that has made the biggest impact on my life yet. Right next to working out everyday. In fact becoming a morning person is what allows me to be able to do things that I love before I start my workday.
But it wasn’t always like that. If you have trouble waking up in the mornings, I totally get you. I know the feeling of waking up and already feeling exhausted. But, once you cultivate this habit, things will change, for better.
And in this post, I am sharing all about how you can become a morning person too. If you want to start waking up at 5AM then check out these amazing tips that helped me wake up early and not feel lazy or tired.
How you spend your mornings matter as well. if you wake up early and spend your time scrolling through social media, it’s not going to do you any good.
You need a solid Morning routine that takes care of your well being and that helps you start your day on the right note. You also need to stop doing these toxic habits in the mornings. But, here is how you can become a morning person first:

Simple tips on how to become a morning person:
1.ASK WHY:
Ask yourself why do you want to wake up early? Set an intention and do it right away. Imagine what change it will bring to your life if you are not rushed in the mornings.
Imagine having the time to do things that you want to do before you start work. There is power in taking your mornings slow and having time to work on yourself.
So ask yourself what all you could get done if you started waking up early in the morning.
It could be anything and it depends on what’s important for you. Maybe you want to workout, maybe you want to read more or maybe you want to work on a really big project.
It totally depends from person to person. So knowing why you want to wake up early is important.
2.Create a Morning Routine:
This is not debatable. Having a morning routine is vital for success. I have a beautiful Morning routine that I absolutely love.
You need to know exactly what you’re going to be doing when you wake up in the morning. You need to create a morning routine so that you’re not wasting your precious time every morning.
Having a Morning routine will motivate you to wake up in the mornings. Knowing what all you can accomplish if you just wake up a little early is a motivation in itself.
Having a morning routine allows you to do things that matter to you. For me, it is the time when I work towards self improvement and having this time in the morning is sacred to me.

Morning is the time when I have a clear mind and can work on my personal development goals without the stress of the work day getting to me. Having a morning routine also allows me to set the tone right for the rest of the day. It makes me feel in control of how my day is going to go.

3. KEEp your phone far:
As I keep repeating on the blog here, keeping your phone away in the mornings is a great habit to build. If you use the alarm in your phone, set the alarm and keep your phone at a distance so you have to get out of bed to turn the alarm off. It helps in waking up early.
And once you are up, put your phone on silent mode and keep it away so you are not distracted by it. I also have the notifications off and whenever possible I will leave my phone in another room in the mornings.
This way I get to focus on me-time in the mornings and get things done. It’s also great because it means I am not scrolling through social media first thing in the morning and that’s great for mental wellbeing as well.
I get to start my day with a clear mindset and I work on my own goals rather than comparing my life to anyone else’s life on the social.
4. HYDRATE yourself:
Our bodies are 70% water and keeping yourself hydrated is super important for our bodies to function properly. And having a tall glass of water by taking small mindful sips in the mornings gives you the time to wake up and gather your thoughts.
You can also take this time to think about your intention for the day or to plan your day. If you want, you could even write a to-do list. I usually write mine the night before. But when I don’t have a to-do list, I will make it in the morning. I also make sure to think about my TPT (Top Priority Task) of the day.
5. Get outside:
In the mornings it’s super important to get outside and get fresh air.
In the mornings I usually always take out time to get fresh air. I often do this while my meditation session out in my little balcony. On some days I will go for a long walk with my dog. Whatever you decide to do, getting fresh air is the point.
If you do workout in the mornings then make it a habit to do at least 10-20 minutes of your workout outdoors.
Being in sunlight also sets your body clock right after a few days and you start waking up by yourself without any alarms.
6. Sleep early:
This should go without saying but I will say it anyway. If you want to wake up early in the mornings and if you want to be a morning person, you need to start going to bed at a reasonable hour.
You can’t expect to sleep at 2 AM and then wake up at 5 AM. Your body needs proper rest and sleep to function properly. And getting 7-8 hours of sleep is really important.
If you have trouble sleeping, try these 12 tips that will help you sleep better. When you take proper rest you wake up feeling refreshed and are more likely to be productive. I also find that waking up at the same time everyday really helps.
7. Change your narrative:
What you tell others about you matters. But what matters even more is the way you talk to yourself. If you keep saying that you’re someone who eats an entire bag of chips in one sitting, then you will find it difficult to stop. So stop talking to yourself in these limiting beliefs.
Trust yourself that you’re capable of changing and that you can adopt better habits. Whenever you’re saying such things, talk as if these are things of past. So instead of saying “I can eat an entire bag of chips” say something like ” I used to eat an entire bag of chips in one sitting”. This tells your sub conscious that you’re capable of change and that you WILL make these lifestyle changes.
So instead of taking great pride in being a night owl (we all know about how toxic the hustle culture can be), change your narrative and tell yourself that you will become a morning person for sure. Of course it will take some time but you’ll get there.
8. Take it as a challenge with a friend:
Having someone to keep you accountable is great when you are trying to instil a new habit. So, if you have someone who can take up this challenge with you, it’s even better. If not, share it to social media and you’ll find someone who will join you on the challenge. It is a great way to keep yourself accountable as well as make it fun.
Keep in mind that it usually takes about 2 months before it becomes a habit. So you really need to stick to it before it starts coming naturally to you.
9. DO something that makes you excited to get up:
Having a morning routine is essential but having something that makes you super excited to wake up in the mornings is the key. It could be anything you find joy in. When I started waking up early in the morning I used to plan my vacations and itineraries before getting started with my Top Priority task of the day. And as it turns out, that made is super fun for me and thus waking up early became easy.
It could be anything for you. Maybe you find the idea of trying a new workout exciting, or maybe you love cleaning your house in the morning.
It could be as simple as trying a new pancake recipe. The idea is to have something to look forward to in the mornings and to find joy in little things everyday.
